"Green alleges she has been injured by the GOP’s campaign tactics and has suffered “terror of the heart, anxiety and grave fear” for Obama’s life. She also claims $6M in damages but says the money is not important since her purpose is a moral plea to the Republicans to temper their language.
The case has been assigned to a federal court mediation program."

"The response from Senator Obama and his campaign yesterday was to attack Joe. People are digging through his personal life and he has TV crews camped out in front of his house. He didn't ask for Senator Obama to come to his house. He wasn't recruited or prompted by our campaign. He just asked a question. And Americans ought to be able to ask Senator Obama tough questions without being smeared and targeted with political attacks."
"It doesn't take a Ph.D. in political science to realize that those getting an earned income credit 'refund' are likely to vote for those who offer to increase that payment. Obama's exact plan is a bit hard to discern, but from everything he has said, his tax cut would send checks to 40% of the taxpayers. At that point we may be beyond recovery: we will become a one party state."
"Not because it says anything about Joe the Plumber, mind you. But it does serve a useful function: it warns any future citizen who might dare question Barack Obama that his life will be closely scrutinized for any irrelevant but embarrassing information.
So, you know. Critical in that sense."

In some of these places, including Grand Island, this newest wave of immigrant workers has had the effect of unifying the other ethnic populations against the Somalis and has also diverted some of the longstanding hostility toward Latino immigrants among some native-born residents.
“Every wave of immigrants has had to struggle to get assimilated,” said Margaret Hornady, the mayor of Grand Island and a longtime resident of Nebraska. “Right now, it’s so volatile.”
The federal immigration crackdown has hit meat- and poultry-packing plants particularly hard, with more than 2,000 immigrant workers in at least nine places detained since 2006 in major raids, most on immigration violations.
"It is there now for Philadelphia, another chance for glory. The Phillies captured the National League pennant Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, with Cole Hamels silencing the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-1, in Game 5 of the N.L. Championship Series."
"I think this is a very good time to strip down our regulatory system to its bare bones and rebuild it into something more effective: streamlining regulatory authority, refocusing it on systemic risk and giving it the power to pursue those issues more effectively, purging the overreliance on single models that make things more convenient for the regulators, and figuring out how the hell Basel II went so deadly wrong."

"As for his good works, there's a problem there too, and it's what relates most directly to Obama. Some people think Ayers's present-day work in the field of education is too radical, and they sincerely want to know whether Obama is too far to the left. That's why I'm interested in Ayers and Obama. I still don't know the answer, and I don't think there is any way to know the answer other than to elect Obama President and see what he does. That's what Obama is asking us to do."

"HIG, or Hizb-I Islami Gulbuddin, was founded by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, a warlord who hates the U.S. HIG is a terrorist group and a faction of Hizb-I Islami, all with ties to al Qaeda and Bin Laden. Hekmatyar offered homestead to Bin Laden more than ten years ago. Collectively, we call these groups (and others) “Taliban,” but that blanket term is not completely accurate. The Afghanistan/Pakistan insurgency is a complex, distributed and hydra-headed network of different people fighting for different reasons. Sometimes they work together, sometimes they don’t. If they “succeed” in kicking us out of Afghanistan, they will probably end up fighting each other. Some of the people we call Taliban are al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists. Others are local insurgents fighting for revenge, self-respect, or because they’re simple, ornery mountain folk who have traded in their spears and torches for AKs and RPGs. Iraq is a few decades behind the west; Afghanistan is practically on a different planet."
"PREPARE for a new America: That's the message that the Rev. Jesse Jackson conveyed to participants in the first World Policy Forum, held at this French lakeside resort last week.
He promised 'fundamental changes' in US foreign policy - saying America must 'heal wounds' it has caused to other nations, revive its alliances and apologize for the 'arrogance of the Bush administration.'
The most important change would occur in the Middle East, where 'decades of putting Israel's interests first' would end."
Jackson believes that, although "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" remain strong, they'll lose a great deal of their clout when Barack Obama enters the White House.
So now that I’m ‘off the reservation’ here and now on board with this current crop of government intervention for the commong good, WTF is up with the government not bailing out Mother’s Cookies?!?!? You mean to tell me that they are willing to prop up a gaggle of constapated financial execs, but that they aren’t going to save my ability to eat frosted Circus Animal cookies? My all-time favorite dessert (and breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack)??
"Conservative-friendly media better get ready. Should Barack Obama win the presidency and the Democrats control Congress, as now seems likely, they will launch a full-scale war to drive critics — especially on political talk radio — right out of legitimate public debate."
Who's paying for this? Well, you are. In July Nader hauled $411,187.85 in matching funds, paid for by voluntary donations to the public financing fund, distributed by the FEC. That's roughly a quarter of Nader's overall fundraising. No matter what damage Barack Obama wreaks, if he actually succeeds in blowing up the public finance system, he'll have done us all a favor.

"We are equally concerned with his proposals to increase tax rates on labor income and investment. His dividend and capital gains tax increases would reduce investment and cut into the savings of millions of Americans. His proposals to increase income and payroll tax rates would discourage the formation and expansion of small businesses and reduce employment and take-home pay, as would his mandates on firms to provide expensive health insurance."
"...Just as Calvinists believed in the centrality of the depravity of man, with the exception of a miniscule contingent of the Elect of God, their secularized descendants believe in the depravity and cursedness of Western civilization, with their own enlightened selves in the role of the Elect."
